Selecting Your Dog                    Get to Know Your Breeder. Ask Questions!

Never be afraid to ask your breeder questions.  You must feel comfortable that you are dealing with knowledgeable and honest people.  The breeder should always sound honest with their answers and should never appeared annoyed or bothered.  Are they willing to show you the pedigree?  Or, or they trying to hide poor breeding practices such as inbreeding or excessive line breeding?

Always purchase your puppy from a Breeder - not from Pet Stores.  It is often difficult to determine the conditions under which the puppy was whelped and cared for. It is also difficult to determine how long their pups survived under cramped physical conditions or what level of socialization or care was given them.

Pet stores often buy from breeders who have difficulty selling their puppies through normal or direct means.  This is a red flag.  These folks are seldom concerned with either the lineage or conditions under which they were bred, nor do they guarantee their pups for any extended period of time. They are in business to produce the maximum number of puppies and to make as much money as they possibly can.  The breeding and selling of quality dogs is not on their list of priorities..

So - which dog breed and puppy is right for you?  There are numerous sources including the Internet and books on the subject of selecting a breed that is right for you and your situation.  Many breeders force purchasers to go through exhaustive and intrusive interviews and application processes to divine or diagnose whether their breed is right for you.  Some of these documents are 5 to 6 pages long and ask extremely personal questions.  Black Ice Kennels^® refuses to commit such invasions of privacy.  As a responsible adult you are certainly able to make such a determination yourself.  However, please do give careful consideration to the characteristics of the breed you are choosing (to assist you, we have listed the main characteristics of Siberian Huskies on this website).  If you do just a little bit of homework, you will be certain to make the right choice for you and your family.
